Slow (-food) city

A small and charming city known also as the "temple of gastronomy"
Type of location

Small city in the heart of Puglia

Description
  • I recommend a walk through the charming streets and squares of Ceglie Messapica, a picturesque town in the heart of the Itria Valley; you will be immersed in the daily life of a typical southern Italian town.
  • Ceglie is one of Italy’s “slow food” towns.
  • Famous is the “biscotto cegliese”, a biscuit made entirely without flour. Its ingredients are almonds, honey, lemon liqueur, lemon peel, cherry jam and eggs. The recipe is passed down from generation to generation and all the ingredients are made in Ceglie.
  • Don’t miss trying one of the fantastic local restaurants that make Ceglie Messapica a secret paradise for foodies, you can find our two favourites under “Restaurants” in our blog.

In summer, usually in August and September, some of the city’s most characteristic streets will host the works of various Apulian artists.
